Even the entrance is cute!

Healthy eating at You and I Korean Restaurant

Being a natural lover of food, it is always an adventure to try new things. No matter the uniqueness of the type of food or its origin. This mind set led Mich and I to the new restaurant 'You and I' (Shabu Shabu and BBQ grill), a Korean restaurant. It definitely helps that we're lovers of Kpop and Kdramas. Walking into the restaurant the atmosphere felt calm and pleasant; From the decorations on the wall, to its color, and even to its tables. The interior gives off a warm and chic yet quirky but cute energy. The restaurant is small but relatively spacious and separated into two sections: Shabu Shabu and BBQ tables and the normal tables. The Shabu Shabu tables have a built in mini table stove in them while the other tables are regular. We chose the Shabu Shabu table with the intention of ordering Shabu Shabu to eat.

The waitress approached and the menu was given to us. You and I promotes healthy food, clearly written on the wall and the menu follows suit. Everything on the menu looked delectable and oh so yummy. We decided to leave the Shabu Shabu for a next time and ordered a variety of dishes based on how hungry we felt. We ordered the Mandu dumplings and Ssaebap to share between us. The menus were taken and the waiting game began... It wasn't long before our waitress came back with food.

Chicken Mando

For starters, we were given a simple salad consisting of a mix of greens and the most delicious dressing over it. We got a chance to develop our skills at using chopsticks although spoons were also provided to assist with our dining. After the salad another waitress brought out the Chicken Mandu dumplings and soy sauce which is my absolute favourite!!! The texture of the dumplings and the perfectly cooked chicken inside of them had the right flavor and steamed enough that it could be eaten with no regrets.

Then came the main dish, Ssaebap: first a kidney shaped blue plate with wet wipes, a bowl of rice, with side plates of kimchi, greens, pickled cucumber slices, fish, bean paste, a hot small pan of chicken pieces and a plate with different cabbage leaves, seaweed and lettuce. The waitress explained that we each take a wet wipe and clean our hands first since it's a very hands-on experience. She explained the best way to eat was to each take a piece of greens, place it in our palm, take some chicken, rice and paste, then wrap it and eat it whole. The others items are side dishes meant to be eaten separately.

Chicken Ssaebap

We chose to add a bit of everything to make our own wraps, and mixed and matched food. It was truly scrumptious and tasteful. This occupied us for a bit. Despite that, we were still a bit hungry so we decided on the vegetarian Bbimbap.

Vegetable Bbimbap

The Vegetarian Bbimbap came with the same side dishes of kimchi, veggies, pickled cucumber mix and fish. This time the bibimbap was placed in a stone bowl which had the rice to the bottom with four sets of Korean veggies placed on top. The stone bowl kept the food steamy hot, so hot that I burnt my hand on the outside twice due to my own clumsiness. This dish was also delicious and appetizing. The ambience and interior was peaceful and gorgeous, the waitresses pleasant and helpful. You and I is definitely a place to visit, try new things and for us; until we've tried everything on the menu and then maybe a few times more.
